One such Russian drug is called T-aktivin (Tactivin) - it is an injection and made of "thymus of the large horned cattle" (cows?). Another one is Plaferon, which is made in Georgia. Many doctors use it (mainly in children with upper and lower RIs) but only few know that it is extracted from the amniotic membrane of the human placenta. The information leaflet, which accompanies the drug, says that it is of protein origin and nothing else. The patients should know that some manufacturers of other mammalian-derived products provide a warning that there is no guarantee of complete purity with such drugs.
