Abstract

This ecologic study was conducted in Timur Tengah Selatan regency, province of Nusa Tengara Timur in order to analysis the relationship between altitude and rainfall with malaria incidence.

In Indonesia, the malaria incidence does not related linearly with altitude; even the highest incidence was pound in the area of altitude 850 m from sea level. Even malaria occurrence increase during dry season, the rainfall does not related to malaria incidence. Malaria occurrence pattern in district level and village level are different. The local specific factor should be considered in malaria occurrence pattern analysis in village level. In order to show a clearer feature of malaria occurrence including vector dynamic and socioeconomic factors, an extended study is needed.

For improving malaria program, the integrated malaria vector management it is needed. The program should be based on strong, accurate, and update data base.

Key Words: Malaria incidence, altitude, rainfall.
