Crack' cocaine associated morbidities include
  • significant impact on pulmonary alveolar permeability (Tashkin, 1997),
  • can induce persistent renal failure, hematuria, and thrombocytopenia (Volcy et al, 2000).
  • "noticeable increases in the incidence of neurovascular complications" (Darras et al, 1991), including ischemic cerebrovascular events.

A potent topical vasoconstrictor, cocaine also causes

  • nasal mucosal and dermal ulceration;
  • perforated gastropyloric ulcer (Abramson et al, 1991), and
  • a condition now known as "crack lung" (Gatof, 2002).
