In the demographic history/growth of a nation, window of opportunity opens for a limited period. It is the period when the dependency ratio comes to its lowest. As the aging advances, the number of old persons increase thereby again elevating the dependents ratio thus closing the demographic window.

Countries like Thailand and the Republic of Korea have already taken advantage of their demographic window by investing in social program to secure dramatic economic growth.
