Among those patients, 8.7% had an excessive alcohol consumption (³ 60 g/day – n = 33). It concerned mainly males (n = 31). 13.6 % of them estimated their alcohol intake to be equal to or greater than 60 grams per day compared to only 1.3 percent of females (n = 2).

We analysed the effect of alcohol on HH expression and observed that patients having excessive alcohol consumption presented significantly higher iron parameters and liver enzymes than patients having moderate alcohol intake (Table 1). Clinical signs were also more frequent in excessive drinkers, notably skin pigmentation (OR=3.4 - p<0.001) (Fig. 1)
