Classic mumps is characterized by enlargment of the salivary glands. Bilateral parotitis (inflammation of the salivary glands) in many cases. Epididymoorchitis occurs in about 25% of postpubertal men who contract mumps. In postpubertal women, mastitis and oophoritis can occur. Rare deafness is a wellknown feature of the mumps.
