Although the first three sections contain information specific to starting research projects at MCHP, the Protocol highlights some of the key aspects of seeking funding and ethical approval which may be beneficial to other users.

The MCHP Databases and Data Analysis sections are particularly critical for the collaboration between centres on larger projects.

The MCHP Databases section focuses on the applying database-specific standardization techniques to MCHP databases, including exclusions typically carried out at MCHP and tips for defining both new variables and the study population.  This section also provides information on the various files of the inner ring of the diagram on slide 2 of this lecture.

The Data Analysis section addresses  issues such as how to count different types of occurrences.  This  is particularly useful when more than one programmer, database or research site is involved.

The last two sections of the Protocol offer more MCHP-specific guidelines as the project nears completion. However, researchers at other centres may find some of the ideas useful: seeking feedback about analyses before and after they are carried out, holding post-project debriefing meetings, identifying and documenting new measures, variables or analytical approaches, and archiving program files and datasets.
