Desmodus rotundus the vampire bat, distributed through most of Mexico, attacks cattle. It carries rabies virus in the west not the east. Vampires range northwards to Linares, Nuevo León, Mexico. Puerto Rico as clear of rabies from bats deserves some confirmation.

Cats seem to be the number 1 target, yet this estimate must vary greatly by localities around the planet. Foxes, racoons and others per locality remain underinvestigated. Nevertheless, dogs are the usual source of human infections.
