ISO/IEC 17025 clause 5.5.4 specifies:

Records shall be maintained of each item of equipment…The records shall include…

  • identity of the equipment…;
  • …unique identification;
  • checks that…complies with the specification;
  • …location, where appropriate;
  • ..manufacturer’s instructions…or reference to their location;
  • ...copies of reports…of calibrations, adjustments, acceptance criteria…due date of next calibration;
  • maintenance plan, where appropriate…maintenance to date;
  • damage, malfunction, modification or repair...

NATA specifies maximum periods between calibrations for several classes of equipment, e.g. balances, pipettes, thermometers, timing devices. These intervals can be negotiated, depending on the circumstances. (Appendix 2 to General Requirements for Registration, 1992.)
