The next three slides describe the results of the landmark research, Study on the Efficacy of Nosocomial Infection Control (SENIC) Project*. The research was conducted in the late 1970s. Since then, hospital practices have changed substantially. Bacteremia and pneumonia in modern day hospitals account for much higher percentage of all hospital infections than in the later 1970s.
