When we compared the two compounds for bacteriostatic activity with M. bovis BCG, we found little difference when wild-type cells were examined (gyrA+). However, the methoxy compound was about ten times more active than the C-8-H compound when a resistant gyrase mutant was examined. Ciprofloxacin, a C-8-H compound, was included in the experiment as a reference compound (8).
