CHD is the leading cause of death and disability in Americans. On average, total life expectancy in blacks is six years shorter on blacks than in whites and years of health life is about 10 years shorter when black Americans are compared with white Americans (5). Cardiovascular disease accounts for 32.4% of all deaths in black men and 41.6 % of deaths in black women. Although coronary heart disease mortality has declined among black men and women, the rate of decline has been significantly lower when compared to white men and women.(1)
