Theoretically, the role of the researcher in Participatory Action Research is to facilitate rather than direct the research effort. Practically speaking, often the researcher is needed as an instructor for the participants to ensure they develop necessary skills to continue the development of injury prevention programs into the future, after the researcher has left the community.
