Leslie L. Roos, Ph.D. is the Director of the Manitoba Health Research Data Base and a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He is a Fellow of the Association for Health Services Research. He has been a National Health Scientist and an Associate of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. He has contributed to a wide variety of books and journals on topics such as the use of administrative data to measure health status, comparisons of health care outcomes between the United States and Canada, population-based health trends, and outcomes of care. He has particular interests in uses of the World Wide Web as an educational tool for students, and to facilitate collaboration among researchers around the world.
Noralou P. Roos, Ph.D. is the Co-Director of MCHP, is a Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. Dr. Roos is an Associate of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and, for 24 years was a National Health Scientist supported by the National Health Research and Development Program. She was a member of the Prime Minister's Health Forum and is a member of the Medical Research Council of Canada. She has received a number of national and international fellowships and grants. She has published extensively in books and journals. Her research interests include variations in physician practice styles, outcomes of care, use of administrative data for managing the health care system, and the relationship between health care use and population health.
Charlyn Black, MD, ScD is Co-Director of MCHP, and Associate Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba. She is currently active in teaching at undergraduate, residency and graduate levels in the Faculty of Medicine, supervises students in the graduate program in the Department of Community Health Sciences, and has major responsibility for MCHP's external relations and policy linkages. Her professional and public service activities include membership on federal and provincial advisory committees, and peer review for several journals and funding agencies. Her research interests focus on use of existing data to study links between health and health care, to assess and monitor quality, effectiveness and outcomes of medical interventions, and to develop data-driven information tools to inform health care decision makers.
Ruth-Ann Soodeen, B.A. (Hons.) is a Research Assistant with MCHP. She received her BA (Honors) in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg and is currently working towards her MSc degree in Family Studies from the University of Manitoba. Her thesis will be looking at the impact of homecare services on the marital relationship between older homecare clients and their spouses. She has co-authored several articles and presentations relating to the effects of health reform. Her research interests include outcomes of care, psychosocial predictors of health outcomes, marital and family relationships, intergenerational relationships, and care for the elderly.
Eileen Pyke has been an Office Manager with MCHP for over eight years. She has expertise in several desktop publishing applications and has recently created a web-based Epidemiology course for Leslie Roos. Her interests include the epidemiology of health care and the creation of World Wide Web pages and presentations to be used as educational tools for students, and to facilitate collaboration among researchers around the world.
