Rural Residents - Preventive Services

Results (Rural & Urban analyses revealed similar trends)

1.Approximately 90% of children throughout Manitoba received their first year immunizations on schedule. There were no disparities in the likelihood of being immunized between children from poor neighborhoods and those from wealthy neighborhoods.

2. The Breast Screening Program has successfully increased the percent of women screened. By 1996, 50% had received one or more screens over a 2-yr period. Differences in screening rates between income groups have also decreased; by 1996, the low income:high income screening ratio was 72:100.

3. Only 50% of all women, regardless of area of residence and income level, received Pap tests appropriately.

Conclusion:
These results suggest that active follow-up, delivery by public health, a complete population registry, and person-based information promise target high-risk individuals and increases rates of preventive service use.
