Writers make much of “the battle of the sexes” and certainly it can have the elements of warfare about it:

- Physical violence-beatings, torture, sadism

- Mental abuse-silence, insults, sarcasm

- Sexual abuse-rape, degradation

- Abuse

The powerful chemistry of love and attraction can turn into a poisoned chalice of resentment, anger and even hatred within marriage too easily. In Britain a third of marriages end in divorce……yet most divorcees remarry!

There can be discrimination, sexual abuse in the workplace, the office, the factory, the hospital ward and it is nearly always men abusing women.

Why-is bullying part of the psyche, do we all instinctively recognise a weaker party and enjoy our superiority?

Do women go along with it, accept it, invite it and even relish it? Sadism and masochism are part of the human psyche. Are there acceptable and unacceptable boundaries and do they change constantly with the individuals, the time, the place and circumstance?
