This lecture was motivated by a course at Harvard School of Public Health entitled “Epidemiologic Methods Development: Past and Present” taught by Dr. Murray A. Mittleman, MD, DrPH. At the time this lecture was designed (Fall 1999), the authors were students in this course and completing the requirements for doctoral degrees in epidemiology.
