The effect period after the exposure is the time period during which there is either excess or reduced risk due to the exposure. If there is a delay before impact of the exposure and/or there is carry over time of the exposure, the effect period is not exactly the same as the period of exposure. Thus, the effect period is defined as the difference of those two. Usually, one can assume the minimum delay before impact as "0".
