Motor vehicle and other unintentional injuries are the leading causes of death among all individuals aged 11-24 years in the United States, in Israel and in many other countries worldwide. Due to the nature of the military lifestyle, army personnel often engage in activities which place them at additional risk for traumatic injury. The military epidemiologist tries to identify risk factors for injury. For example: do more accidents happen to soldiers who haven’t gotten enough sleep due to an intense training schedule?
