This slide summarizes the main features of neuropathy and some recent developments concerning its possible etiology. The association with hypertension and possible sodium potassium ATPase abnormalities raise a potential for further preventive strategies. Another interesting association of autonomic neuropathy has been with coronary disease and sudden death. However much of this association may be explained by links with renal disease and cardiovascular risk factors which probably explain most of the excess mortality.
