The next category of requirements deals with follow-up of the screening results. The test only identifies those at risk of disease. Confirmatory testing is required and if positive, a treatment that can alter the course of disease is required.
There is no point offering screening, even with a very good test, when there is no treatment available for the condition detected. Furthermore, follow-up tests and treatments should be readily available. Those doing the follow-up should be in agreement as to what should be done.
