The Great Hanshin Earthquake, magnitude 7.2 in Richter scale, hit Hanshin-Awaji Area of Japan on January 17, 1995. More than 5,500 people were killed and 30,000 to 40,000 were injured. Approximately 200,000 houses and buildings were damaged and 300,000 people lost their houses. | ||||||
