Population estimation is carried out using a simple formula. This method is only suitable if both lists are independent. If the lists are positively dependent, this will result in an underestimate of the total population size (N) and vice versa.
The number of missing cases can be determine by completing the values in the contingency table once the "N" value had been obtained.
