The next stage of development of Type 2 diabetes is the appearance of IGT. IGT is defined as that degree of glucose intolerance which is associated with a high risk for the development of Type 2 diabetes. The WHO criterion for IGT is a venous plasma glucose level of 7.8-11.0 mmol/l two hours after a 75g oral glucose load.
