Type 2 Diabetes has become a major health problem worldwide. At present there are about 125 million people affected by the disease globally, while within the USA there are about 15 million people with diabetes. It has been projected that by the year 2010, the number of persons with diabetes will double although the increases in the USA will be modest. Most of the increase will result from changing demographic characteristics, especially in developing countries such as India and China. Over 90% of the cases of diabetes worldwide are the form known as Type 2 diabetes.
