Fetal type of methylmercury poisoning is said to be far more serious than adolt type. Methylmercury poisoning in Iraq differs from Minamata in Japan. In Minamata, 22 infants with serious cerebral disorder were form of mothers who showed slight or no symptoms whatsoever, whereas in the incident in Iraq, there was only one case (among 25 mother-infant pairs) in which a mother showed no symptoms although her child did.
