Repeated laboratory tests are needed for the diagnosis of chronic hepatitis. Serum ALT, AST usually show different degree of elevation, however, they may be within normal range. Normal value does not mean the hepatitis is inactive, and the degree of elevation only reflects the severity of liver cell damage at the time of the test, but does not predict the prognosis of the disease. Serum albumin is synthesized only in the liver, therefore its serum level reflects the functional reserve of the liver. Serum globulin level reflects the damage of reticuloendothelial system in the liver.
