Development of water supply services
in developing countries 1990-2000

Today, more than 800 million of those unserved live in rural areas. Water supply also varies widely in terms of region and country. For instance, urban areas generally have higher coverage than rural areas. Even within areas, inequitable distribution can be very marked. In cities, water is often provided to districts whose populations can pay for services.
