We combined blacks and other racial groups in this figure because their patterns of median age at death were similar and because too few cases were available for separate analysis. The median age at death of people with Down syndrome increased steadily among both whites and members of other racial groups without congenital heart defects, although the difference between whites and other racial groups persisted. Among those who had congenital heart defects, the median age at death remained low and unchanged among other racial groups but increased considerably among whites after 1992.
