Most people begin by specifying themselves by age and gender. They might then mention interests or occupation, or characteristics they attribute to themselves, such as friendliness or diligence.

Did you use these kinds of information? Why do you think you did that? Probably as a means of trying to identify the nature of your social relationship with the other person.
