Topics
The theme of the 28th Scientific Conference is “Cell Engineering Paradigms in Ageing, Cancer, and Regenerative Medicine”.
The goal is to bring together speakers from multi-disciplinary fields and open the floor up for discussion to bring light to the common paradigms among them that can be addressed by cellular engineering. This meeting is traditionally a meeting ground for clinical and engineering disciplines. For the 2010 meeting, we plan to discuss common paradigms on the same platform by bringing together scientists with expertise in Aging, Cancer, Stem Cells, Physics, Biomaterials, Cell and Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine. Topic areas include but are not limited to:
• Tissue engineering
• Stem cell biology and mechanobiology
• Biomaterials
• Tissue wound healing
• Cell mechanics
• Tissue biomechanics
• Cell mechanobiology
• Cell-matrix interactions
• Cellular and/or tissue regulation by physical stimuli (e.g., mechanical, electrical, magnetic, etc.)
Speakers
The invited speakers for the 28th Scientific Conference will be updated periodically. Confirmed speakers include:
George Truskey, PhD, Duke University,
"Cell Engineering"
Isaiah J. Fidler, PhD, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center
"Cancer Cell Metastasis and Cell-Matrix Interactions"
David Odde, PhD, University of Minnesota
"Cell Adhesion and Mechanics"
Jed Macosko, PhD, Wake Forest University
"Cellular Biophysics"
Brian Harfe, PhD, University of Florida, Gainesville
"Cellular Aging"
Lola Reid, PhD, University of North Carolina
"Cancer-Stem Cell"

• A completed travel support application (PDF) (DOC)
• A letter from their supervisor indicating the need for travel funds and validating that the student is in a graduate program.
• A legible, scanned copy of your airline ticket receipt.
• A Curriculum Vitae
Funds will be distributed in accordance with grand fund conditions, the total number of travel support applications, and the funds available in the student travel budget.
Awards
Each year, the SPRBM presents several awards based upon an evaulation of abstracts and presentations at the Scientific Conference.
These awards include:
• Best Presentation Award: Awards are presented in both Graduate Student and Postdoctoral categories.
• Iwao Yasuda Award: For making an excellent contribution to the field of biomedical research, based upon current research achievements in the area of physical regulation in biology and medicine.
• New Clinical Investigator Award: For clinically trained individuals (M.D., D.D.S., D.M.D., D.V.M.) who have made an excellent contribution to the field of biomedical research, based upon current achievements in the area of biological effects of physical interaction and related physiology. The research may be in a clinical or basic science area.
In order to be considered for the awards, abstracts must be of the highest quality, substantially describing completed work of scientific significance. Abstracts must include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion sections with sufficient detail, including statistical analysis, to allow the Program Committee to evaluate the scientific quality of the work. In addition, presentations must be clear, focused, and must adhere to the Program Committee's guidelines for length.
