FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for new students

How to get to the University of Pittsburgh from the airport?

Here are some instructions on how to get to the University of Pittsburgh from the airport.

Bus 

After picking up your baggage from the baggage claim area, go to the bus stop in front of the airport (the same place where you can get  the taxi). There is a bus service, numbered 28X,  from the airport to the University of Pittsburgh running approximately every 20-30 minutes. It usually takes about 45 - 60 minutes from the airport to the university. The bus fee is only $1.95. (You can pay $2.00 if you don't have the exact amount.)

Taxi

Taxi is available in front of the airport. From the airport to the university, the fare is usually about $20 -$30* (plus additional 15% tip).   For a called taxi service, the telephone numbers are available here.

We highly recommend that you try to contact some Thai students from our student directory. Somebody might be able to provide you the transportation. 
 

Where to stay?

There is a large number of apartments available near the university area. The rental prices range from $300 - $500* for efficiency room (kitchen + living room + bathroom; no bedroom), $400 - $600* for 1-bed room (kitchen + living room + bathroom + 1 bedroom) and $600 - $900* for 2-bed room (kitchen + living room + bathroom + 2 bedrooms). Inflation usually causes the price to increase by  $10 - $50* per year.

Most apartments require that you have to sign the contract for 1-year minimum. Please be prepared if your degree plan does not match with the apartment contract. After signing the apartment rental contract, usually you will be allowed to move in the first day of next month.

There is  university dormitory rooms available at the Litchfield Towers where you can stay for temporary. The rate is about $30* per night per room. Although these rooms are not very good, it is suitable if you can not find a good place to stay as yet. Please click here for the map.
