Tau Beta Sigma Sorority=

 =

1. General

 

1.1   =         The name of this organization shall be Gamma Omega Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Sorority for College and University Band Members, hereina= fter referred to as the Chapter.

1.2   =         This Constitution establishes and prescribes the authorized regulations pertaini= ng to the functions and operations of the Chapter.

1.3   =         This Constitution is subordinate to and shall in no way conflict or receive prio= rity over the National Constitution of Tau Beta Sigma Sorority, hereinafter refe= rred to as the National Constitution.

1.4           The most recently revised version of this Constitution shall supersede all previous versions.

1.5   =         Proposed amendments to this Constitution shall be presented in writing at a regularly called Chapter Meeting. If two thirds (2/3) of the votes cast by the Chapter are favorable, the proposed amendment shall be declared adopted and shall become operational and effective at the adjournment of the Chapter Meeting, unless otherwise stated in the amendment.

1.6   =         If an amendment receives less than two-thirds (2/3) vote by the sisterhood the= n it can not be brought up again until the next ad hoc Jurisdiction Committee is formed.

1.7  &= nbsp;        Every spring, an ad hoc Jurisdiction Committee may be formed to read over and/or revise the chapter constitution, as well as every fall after the National Constitution is revised at National Convention. 

 

2. Officers

 

Regulations regarding chapter officers are also s= tated in Sections 6.201-6.210  of the National Constitution.

 

2.1   =         The Officers of the Gamma Omega Chapter shall be President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer.

2.2   =         Election of Officers shall be held at the second to last regular meeting of the year= . A majority of votes cast by the Chapter shall be necessary for election. If m= ore than two (2) candidates are nominated for an office and none receives the necessary majority for election, there shall be a second vote, wherein only those two (2) candidates who received the greatest number of votes are eligible.

2.3   =         Candidates for office must be active members of the Chapter for at least one semester = to be eligible for election to office.

2.4  &= nbsp;        If a vacancy should occur in an office, nominations shall fall to the floor of= the Chapter Meeting, and a special election shall be held. The newly elected Chapter Officer shall serve for the remainder of the former Chapter Officer= 's term.

2.5   =         A Chapter Officer may be removed from office by a three fourths (3/4) vote of= the active membership of the Chapter.

2.6   =         The administrative body of the Chapter shall be the Executive Board, composed of all Chapter Officers. The Executive Board reserves the right to discuss business and to make recommendations on Chapter actions.<= /p>

2.7   =         The President shall be responsible for all duties stated in Section 6.206 of the National Constitution. In addition, the President shall: =

  &n= bsp;            = ; a.        &= nbsp;    Appoint all committees and committee chairs with the approval of the Executive Boar= d.

b.  &n= bsp;          Prepare and give a State of the Chapter address during a meeting that would state w= here things stand in the Chapter and a summary of what has happened.  This will come at the beginning, m= iddle, and end of each school year.

c.  &n= bsp;          Appoint the Parliamentarian with the approval of the Executive Board.

The Parliamentarian shall:

i.  &n= bsp;           Be the committee chair of the Jurisdiction Review Board.

ii.  &= nbsp;          Propose amendments to this Constitution along with the Jurisdiction Review Board su= ch that it remains in accordance with the National Constitution and reflects changes in the functions and operations of the Chapter. <= /p>

  &n= bsp;            = ;         &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;           iii.<= span style=3D'mso-tab-count:1'>        &= nbsp;   Aid the President in tallying votes at the chapter meeting. <= /p>

  &nbs= p;             =         &= nbsp;       iv.  &n= bsp;         Uphold Robert’s Rules of Order.<= o:p>

2.8           The Vice President shall be responsible for all duties stated in Section =

6.207 of the National Constitution.

2.9           The Record= ing Secretary shall:

 &nb= sp;            =   a.        &= nbsp;    Record the minutes of Chapter Meetings.

  &n= bsp;            = ; b.        &= nbsp;    Record attendance at Chapter Meetings.

            =     c.        &= nbsp;    Create, maintain, and distribute the Chapter Directory and Phone Chain.<= /span>

            =     d.        &= nbsp;    Enforce the Chapter’s Attendance Policy.

e.  &n= bsp;          Maintain and control the chapter’s email account. 

2.10         The Corresponding Secretary shall:

 &nb= sp;            =   a.        &= nbsp;    Be responsible for all Chapter correspondence.

b.  &n= bsp;          Prepare and send correspondence to all chapters of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa P= si in the Northeast District of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma, as well as= to all Northeast District Officers of Tau Beta Sigma and the Northeast District Counselor.  =

c.  &n= bsp;         Prepare and send news items to the National Executive Director for publication in t= he Podium or News Notes.

d.  &n= bsp;        Prepare and send news items to the appropriate chapter(s) for publication in the “Northeast Notes.”

2.11   = ;      The Treasurer shall be responsible for all duties stated in Section 6.209 of the National Constitution. In addition, the Treasurer shall: =

 &nb= sp;            =   a.        &= nbsp;    Report all monetary transactions of the Chapter.

 &nb= sp;            =   b.        &= nbsp;    Sign all checks with the approval of the President.       

c.        &= nbsp;    Aid the Chair of the Fund-Raising Committee.

d.        &= nbsp;    Maintain the Chapter's bank account.

e.  &n= bsp;          Serve as Business Manager to the Student Government Allocations Committee and Stu= dent Government Board, or appoint a Business Manager with the approval of the President as needed.

f.  &n= bsp;           Set deadlines for the payment of membership dues and initiate fees.<= /span>

 

3. Finances

 

Regulations concerning chapter finances are also = stated in Sections 6.301-6.305 of the National Constitution.=

 

3.1           All expenditures shall be made by checks drawn from a bank selected by the Chap= ter.

3.2           All items purchased with Chapter funds shall be property of the Chapter. <= /span>

3.3  &= nbsp;        In the event that a member cannot pay National dues by the date set by the Treasurer, the Chapter may, at the Treasurer's discretion, loan the necessa= ry amount to that member, to be paid back to the Chapter at intervals determin= ed by the Treasurer and the member in question. Should the member subsequently= be delinquent in the payment of their dues to the Chapter, the member shall be suspended until such time as the loan is repaid in full. =

3.4  &= nbsp;        Chapter dues shall be $15.00 per year.

 

 

4. Meetings

 

Regulations concerning chapter meetings are also = stated in Sections 6.501-6.504 of the National Constitution.=

 

4.1   =         The time and place of the next Chapter Meeting shall be decided by the Chapter prior to the adjournment of the current Chapter Meeting. =

4.2           The order = of business at Chapter Meetings shall be:

 &nb= sp;            =   b.        &= nbsp;    Reports of Chapter Officers

  &n= bsp;            = ; c.        &= nbsp;    Reports of Committees

  &n= bsp;            = ; e.        &= nbsp;    New Business

            =     f.        &= nbsp;     Ideas/Goals/Concerns=

  &n= bsp;            = ; g.        &= nbsp;    Closing Ceremonies/Remarks

The order of reports of Chapter Officers and Committees shall be in the order of their listing in this Constitution.

4.3   =         Notification of the cancellation of a Chapter Meeting must be given at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the Chapter Meeting.

4.4   =         No meeting may be scheduled for the day prior to the first day of classes following both the interim period between spring and fall semesters and the spring recess period.

4.5 =        A member may be excused from the regular attenda= nce of Chapter Meetings at discretion of the Executive Board.

 

5. Membership

 

Regulations concerning Sorority membership are al= so stated in Sections 6.601-6.617 of the National Constitution.

 

5.1   =         College or university students who do not regularly attend the University of Pittsburgh shall be permitted active status in the Chapter provided that they are enrolled/actively participating in the Univ= ersity of Pittsburgh Bands= .

5.2   =         Honorary status shall be granted upon a three fourths (3/4) favorable vote of the to= tal active membership of the Chapter.
