Who are we?
The Student Global AIDS Project is a relatively new
group on Pitt's campus. It was founded in the fall of 2003 by a few
students that realized the seriousness of the AIDS pandemic and wanted
to make a difference. It is a registered SVO volunteer
organization and the only student organization on campus dedicated to
global HIV/AIDS issues.
The purpose of SGAP is to raise awareness of the
global AIDS pandemic within and outside of Pittsburgh. We do this
through educational events, fundraising, volunteer activities, and
political activism.
In previous years, we focused on political HIV/AIDS
funding and prevention and on raising funds for our Pennies for the
Pandemic campaign. Recently we have been influencing students to get
tested for HIV/AIDS, and we’re concentrating on aiding the Orphan
Support Program of Karagwe, Tanzania.
Congratulations!
