FOUNDING STORY
In May 2006, the University of Pittsburgh Pre-Veterinary Club was conceptualized and founded by Mariam (Mar) Kamal. Mar realized that there were many eager Pitt students interested in the pre-vet path, and wanted to form a student organization where these students could convene and work to educate both each other and their community.

Serving as president, Mar enlisted the help of member Jimmy Corrigan to recruit members. When the club debuted in Fall 2006, the initial meeting took place Monday, September 17. Officers Mar Kamal, Tom Wolfel (Vice President), and Kate Guerriero (Business Manager) conducted the meeting. Today, Pitt Pre-Vet has 28 student members, many of whom had no previous knowledge that there were any other pre-vet students on campus.

With each event or meeting, we feel that we are taking strong steps toward establishing a lasting foundations for future pre-veterinary students at Pitt. Long live the University of Pittsburgh Pre-Veterinary Club!

MISSION BEHIND OUR ESTABLISHMENT
Our goals in founding this club were to provide a base of support and knowledge where future pre-veterinary students can become educated. We hope that these students will develop their interests, learn about their choices and find a strong basis for their future decisions in our club.

Concrete goals include (but are not limited to):
-providing members with a group of like-minded peers
-organizing educational trips and lectures to further veterinary knowledge
-encouraging members' ideas for animal-related projects and events
-providing detailed knowledge on preparing for and applying to vet school
-giving members a place to turn for pre-vet support!
