Special Events
Among the normal trips that we run, there are times that we do other things in the club
that don't fall into the hiking, rafting, and climbing categories. We have those falling
into our Special Events categories. These trips range from Skydiving to Paintball, and
Skiing to Bungee Jumping. Pretty much, if there is something that several people would like
to do, but not on a regular basis, then it is in this category.
Among the variety of outdoors events the club does, The Pitt Outdoors Club is also proud
to be an active participant in the
Hand-in-Hand Festival. This festival, held in the middle of March, is a day of fun games and
events for disabled citizens in and around the city of Pittsburgh. Each year, the POC sponsors a table at
the festival, and spends the day with people of all ages in making macaroni pictures.
Another claim to fame is our Annual Scottish Games.
Each year, we host the Games, usually near the end of April. We have the caber toss, sheif toss, weight toss,
hammer throw, and weight throw as events. We spend the day throwing these objects around the Cathedral Lawn,
and have local bands come in and play throughout the day. Locals stores and companies donate prizes and gift
certificates that we hand out to the winners. All the money we make from this event is then returned to nature,
by way of the Access Fund.

We have also been fortunate enough to assist in sponsoring the
Telluride Film Festival,
and the Banff Film Festival in conjunction with
Mountain Dreams International, Inc.
and Venture Outdoors.
We as a club are active participants in the Environmental Coalition of our Student Government Board. Several weekends out of the school year, we go
to Schenley Park and rappel into ravines to help remove large trash items from the park. We also occasionally
volunteer our services to Seneca Rocks, West Virginia and assist them in rebuilding the trails that lead to the
base of the rock.
