October 5th: Pitt @ W&J/Seton Hill
The Pitt Men's lacrosse team traveled south for a tournament at Washington and Jefferson University on Friday night, tying their match against the Presidents and dropping a heartbreaker to Seton Hill. The Panther's relied heavily on strong defensive play throughout the first game, and goalie Steve Orban came through in the clutch with some key saves. The Pitt offense, led by senior Adam McCollister, posted 3 goals in the first half. W & J crept back in the game in the second half scoring 4 goals, but Pitt stepped up and added one in the final minutes to make it a 4-4 tie. After a strong performance against Washington and Jefferson, Pitt faced a strong Seton Hill squad and couldn't pull out the victory. The Panthers look to pull out a win when they travel to Grove City next Saturday.
February 25th: Purdue @ Pitt
Sunday afternoon Pitt looked to avenge their tight loss to Buffalo against Purdue. The game was close in the first half with a score of 4 to 3 in favor of Pitt. Pitt took control of the game in the second half, and won the game 16 to 9.
February 23rd: Buffalo @ Pitt
On Friday night, the Pitt played a tough fought game against division rival Buffalo. After being down 7 to 2 at half, the Panthers rallied back to make it a tight game. In the end, the Panthers made a run to win within the final seconds of the game only to lose 10 to 9.
February 10th: Indiana @ Pitt
On Saturday night, the men’s Panther Lacrosse club defeated Indiana University in its home opener 11-9. Longtime head coach, Robert Heaps, and two new assistants, Ron Reed and Neal Stephan, both PITT alumni coach the Panther Lacrosse team. Four captains, seniors, Joe Rybny and Luke Liben, and juniors, Brad Bitting and Eamonn Brady, lead the team on the field.
Opening their season, the Panther’s looked to avenge last year’s road loss to conference rival Indiana University. Offensively, juniors Eamonn Brady and Adam McCollister combined for six goals and two assists to lead the Panthers in scoring. Heading a strong defense effort were freshman goalie, Phillip Kritzer, who made 18 saves in the game, and returning starters, sophomore, Bill Egan, and, senior, Luke Liben.
The Hoosier’s, down by 5 at half time, rallied to within two goals before the Panthers sealed the victory with Brady’s third and final goal mid-way through the 4th quarter.
The Panther’s next two home games are in the Cost Center at 8 PM on February 23rd and at 12 PM on February 25th, when they take on the University of Buffalo Bulls and the Purdue Boilermakers.
