Mission Statement
The Campus Women's Organization of the University of Pittsburgh aims to represent the women of the University of Pittsburgh and their interests, namely: education, empowerment, full representation, reproductive justice, and expression of all their identities. By increasing awareness of discrimination and harassment on the basis of physical sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, class, size, religion, political views, and ability, we wish to provide a support network to individuals and forums for confidential and public discussion. We intend to serve as a progessive voice and resource on reproductive issues for the community and to provide support for women and members of both our organization and the Pittsburgh community.
We are focused on bringing awareness to the many social inequalities on campus, in Pittsburgh, and across the world, and are determined to not only recognize these problems, but put into motion efforts to change them.
Student Board
Gina Roussos -- President
Gina Roussos is currently a junior Psychology major and Italian Studies minor. In addition to CWO, she's a member of Pitt's Musical Theatre Club and Some of God's Children Gospel Choir. She enjoys wearing dangly earrings, watching Grey's Anatomy on Hulu, and having impromptu sing-alongs with friends.
Sarah Sullivan -- Vice President
Sarah Sullivan enjoys fall leaves, attending lectures, shoes, discussing rare diseases, and baking pies. She is currently a junior studying History, Statistics, and Global Health with the goal of studying and working in public health. She hopes to one day travel the world and would love it if she could make that world a more egalitarian place.
Teresa Qiu -- Business Manager
Teresa is pursuing a Microbiology major, Chemistry and Studio Arts minors, and a Conceptual Foundation of Medicine certificate, but her true aspiration is to become Patrick Bateman. She was a blasé slacktivist until she acted in The Vagina Monologues in her freshman year. She co-directed the production with Gina Roussos in her sophomore year, and is acting again her junior year.
Tracey Hickey -- Office Administrator
Tracey Hickey is an avid writer, a reluctant poet, a proud feminist, a shameless chatterbox, an amateur critic, an inept fashionista, a recovering Catholic, and a bleeding heart liberal. She is studying Nonfiction Writing with a minor in Film and Women's Studies. She suffers from the delusion that she is funny, and she makes other people suffer from it too.
Efe Oghoghome -- Community Outreach Co-Chair
Efe M. Oghoghome is majoring in Africana Studies, History and Philosophy of Science, and minoring in Chemistry. She is a bubbly person that's super interested in everything -- especially matters of social justice. In her spare time she enjoys discussing various social justice-y things, making folks laugh, reading, writing, and DIY-ing.
Jade Coley -- Community Outreach Co-Chair
As a resident assistant in Panther Hall, Jade Coley leads the Multicultural Living Learning Community. She is a Natural Sciences major with minors in Chemistry and Africana Studies, an ovo-lacto vegetarian, a deist, pansexual, transgender, and a proud member of the African diaspora. When not saving the world, she enjoys cooking, crafting, and calling people on their B.S.
Chelsea Gillus -- Political Action Co-Chair
Chelsea Gillus is a junior Political Science major with a minor in Religious Studies, who aspires to become a social worker. She likes to read classic literature, watch sports, and do outdoor activities.
Rachel Peters -- Political Action Co-Chair
Rachel majors in French and History and minors in Italian. She enjoys studying women's places in history and literature, particularly the roles of queens and female nobility. She first realized her passion for women's history when her tenth grade history teacher asked her if she spelled woman W-O-M-Y-N. Her modern influences include Jessica Valenti, every female PhD student, and Dakota Fanning.
Bella Salamone -- Public Relations Co-Chair
Bella Salamone does not enjoy long walks on the beach, dancing by candlelight, or piña coladas. She does, however, enjoy calling her senator to verbally abuse his answering machine. She is a Molecular Biology and Classics major with delusions of going to graduate school.
Kimiya Memarzadeh -- Public Relations Co-Chair
BLURB.
