I have been given the honor and privilege of serving as the President of BAS during its 40th anniversary year. I serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Board and the official spokesperson of the organization. I work with the BAS Steering Committee, advisor, administration, faculty, and general members to lead the organization into "promoting the cultural, educational, political, and social needs of students.
BAS is about to embark on a very memorable year. As this is our 40th anniversary I expect big things from our organization. I would like to see us address the eight major components that are outlined in our Constitution; I would like to bring us back to what our founders envisioned.
These points address everything from cultural, political, educational, and social issues facing Black students at the University of Pittsburgh. I would like to see us revisit the organization 40 years ago and analyze how much progress has been made since then, making special note of the work that we still need to do to improve our current situations.
All BAS events are events to look forward to, but since a lot of our events are traditional events that happen every year I am looking forward to some of the new events that we will be debuting with our 40th anniversary celebrations.
