As a member of the Accounting Alumni Advisory Board (AAAB) at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ), Mr. Martin Fritz is attempting to establish an award to honor Associate Professor of Accounting, George E. Letcher, Jr.  The award will be called the George E. Letcher, Jr., Accounting Alumni Advisory Board Award.

Mr. Letcher started teaching at UPJ in 1980 and retired in August of 2004.  Over his 24 years of service to UPJ, he was instrumental in establishing the AAAB, and was actively involved in student placement.  As a result, many UPJ students were placed within the top accounting firms, as well as, at top companies within the Johnstown and Pittsburgh areas.  Mr. Fritz personally benefited from his interest in his professional career path while attending UPJ as well as afterwards.

A University endowment award must be established at a minimum of $10,000.  Therefore, in order to establish this award at UPJ,  Mr. Fritiz personally donated the initial $2,500 and his employer Equitable Resources matched his generosity.

If you would join Mr. Fritz in this effort to meet the additional $5,000 needed, you will be able to assist current UPJ students.  This endowed award will be based on academic merit, service to the UPJ community, and leadership within the accounting community.  Members of the AAAB will be instrumental in selecting the student(s) for the award as well as the requirements for the award.

Please join Mr. Fritz  in making this endowment a reality.  Accounting professionals understand the importance of making a gift of this magnitude and importance.

Please make your contributions payable to the Johnstown Educational Foundation (JEF) and send to UPJ, 272 Blackington Hall, 450 Schoolhouse Road, Johnstown, PA  15904.  Indicate on your check that the monies are for the George E. Letcher, Jr., Accounting Alumni Advisory Board Award so that all funds will be properly allocated.  You may also go to the online form available through the UPJ website.  Just indicated what your donation is for so that the monies will be allocated properly.
