Engineering 0715: Engineering Applications for Society

Sara L. Morneweck

Salutations! My name is Sara L. Morneweck. Currently I am studying engineering as a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh. I have an older brother, Bradley, who also studies engineering here at Pitt, as well as a twin brother, Benjamin, studying biology/ecology at Westminster, a small liberal arts college to the north. We live about an hour and fifteen minutes north of Pittsburgh, almost directly half way between here and Erie, near a small village called Fredonia. Our mother is a therapist and is currently running a zoo at our house, considering we left her our four dogs and three cats to care for.

I chose to go to Pitt because of the many opportunities a large school like the University of Pittsburgh provides. I decided to study engineering because I enjoy science, mathematics, and problem solving. I hope to study bioengineering and eventually go to medical school. At some point during my academic career, I also wish to study abroad.

When I am not doing schoolwork, I enjoy partaking in sports, outdoor pastimes, like hunting and fishing, traveling, and watching films. I also enjoy eating out. In fact, my brother and I are touring the eateries of Pittsburgh. My mother’s best friend lives in Bellevue, a small suburb roughly fifteen minutes away from Oakland (when there is neither construction nor traffic, a rarity unfortunately). She also is part of our dining party. Almost every week, she picks us up from Oakland, and we go to a new restaurant. We keep a dining journal, indicating price range, decoration, service, ambiance, and any other interesting notables. It’s definitely a nice break from Market Central, and the doggie bags are always a perk!
