My work is focused on applications of ESR spectroscopy to other disciplines such as organic chemistry and biochemistry. Especially, my first project is to elucidate a reaction mechanism of a rearrangement reaction. A simple continuous wave ESR method, employed along with a spin trapping technique, provides direct information on a radical intermediate that would not be easily detected with other techniques. Another interest of mine is the role of Cu(II) ions in the aggregation process of a peptide involved in Alzheimer's disease. Using ESEEM, a pulsed ESR technique, the atomic level interaction between Cu(II) and the peptide is observed.
It is pleasant to live in
Pittsburgh
, well known as the
Steel
City
. Neither too big nor too small, the city provides you with all you would like to do. My feeling the city is harmony itself. On one hand, it has numerous historic sites you want to visit once in your life. One the other hand, you can enjoy modern conveniences from the city. Besides, the Steelers and their games always remind me of living in
Pittsburgh
