Research Interests
My research in the Saxena group focuses on the measurement of PROTEIN FOLDING AND MISFOLDING using pulsed Electron Spin Resonance. My first project is involved in measuring the interspin distances between the paramagnetic transition metal, [Cu(II)], and nitroxide on a peptide in order to monitor structural changes at each step of the unfolding pathway. In my second project, I demonstrate the copper concentration dependence of the amyloid peptide misfolding mechanism using ESR methods and TEM images.
Other Interests
I raise the guppy, one of the most popular
freshwater aquarium fish species in the world. The picture shows my four guppies (two males and two females) in my home-built small aquarium. They had several baby guppies one month ago, but they ate the baby guppies. How they are cruel !!!! I will get an incubator in order to save my tiny baby guppies for the next guppy’s pregnancy. ^^;
I enjoy skiing in the winter season. In
Pittsburgh
, the winter season is pretty long and has a lot of snow compared to my country,
Korea
. The picture shows my friend and me in the seven springs last year. I cannot forget a cup of cool and fresh beer after skiing in the severely cold weather.
