Join An SGB Committee

 

The Committees are essential to the continued success of SGB in addressing issues important to Student Body. SGB functions and thrives on the efforts of students who administrate a number of SGB programs.


Committee Chair Applications are now available. If you are interested in running for a chair position, download the application below and hand it in to the SGB Office by 14 January 2008 at 5 p.m. Applications for the Allocations Chair and Committee Positions are available in the SGB Office at the front desk and are due 26 November 2007 at 5 p.m.

 

There are ten committees that administrate various aspects of student government, including improving the quality of life for students, approving the use of student collected funds, and promoting student awareness of their rights and roles in the local, state, and federal governments. These are just a few of the many duties that members of SGB committees are charged with. Learn about what you can do in the various committees:

JOINING THE ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

The academic affairs committee reviews the resources that are available to students and take action to provide new resources to meet student demand and need. MORE

JOINING THE ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE

Members of the allocations review all student organization budgets, analyze and make decisions regarding spending requests, and general administration of the funds of the student activities fee. MORE

JOINING THE DIVERSITY COMMITTEE

Develop programming and initiatives to promote student awareness and embracement of cultural diversity in the student body. MORE

JOINING THE ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE

The environmental committee works to improve quality of life for students living in the surrounding University areas, especially Oakland, including recycling and general off-campus safety. MORE

JOINING THE FRESHMAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

This committee provides resources to freshmen to ease their transition into the university environment and help them experience as much as possible. MORE

JOINING THE GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE

The governmental relations committee works to promote local, state, and federal government issues that are important to the student body, including voter awareness campaigns and political discussion programming. This group also introduces members to the legislative process, through lobbying efforts in Harrisburg, PA and Washington D.C. MORE

JOINING THE PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

Work with members of the PITT community to promote upcoming SGB events, and general interaction with the PITT News and other means of keeping students current on SGB matters. MORE

JOINING THE TRADITIONS COMMITTEE

Traditions of yesterday are preserved and promoted, and the traditions of tomorrow are realized through the work of the Traditions Committee, which works to promote PITT school spirit and pride in the Student Body. MORE
