FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Student Government Public Relations Committee

SGB To Host Pittsburgh Area Student Government Conference

PITTSBURGH, Pa., April 13 - In an effort to improve the collegiate experience for all higher education students in the city of Pittsburgh, Student Government Board will meet with student government representatives from seven local colleges and universities Tuesday, April 17 to discuss issues affecting college life in the Pittsburgh area.

The conference, organized by board member James Priestas, will include representatives from Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Carlow University, Chatham College and the North, South and Allegheny campuses of the Community College of Allegheny County.

Board members and the visiting representatives will share ideas and suggestions concerning several aspects of student government organizations held in common by all Pittsburgh area colleges and universities, including public safety and transportation, event programming and student government constitutions, by-laws and codes.

SGB hopes that the event will strengthen the relationship between the University of Pittsburgh and neighboring schools and increase the effectiveness of dialogue with the city by initiating collective action with peer institutions. The board is also proud that Pitt is taking the lead in uniting diverse student bodies around common causes.

The conference will be held prior to the town hall meeting scheduled for 8:45 that evening, and afterwards the visiting representatives will be invited to the meeting to share their ideas and opinions about Pittsburgh area colleges and universities with the rest of Pitt's student body.
