Welcome to the Speech Development Lab

Babies learn a lot about the world around them remarkably fast, and language is no exception.  Here, at the Speech Development Lab, we are dedicated to finding out how infants learn the sound patterns of their language. Our studies focus on what babies pay attention to when we are speaking to them and how they use this information to figure out words. We are interested in how infants combine different types of information in ways that allow them to figure out language. Our questions explore how language abilities develop over time. This includes not only exploring infants' abilities from birth onwards, but also exploring adults' abilities to learn new languages.
