Additional comments | Metzger was kind of strange, but he was a good teacher in my opinion. The class wasn't too hard as far as calculus goes. The final exam is departmental, and he prepares you well for it. He holds review sessions at the end of the term for people who need the help. Grading is fair. |
MATH 0230 | Analytic Geometry and Calculus 2 |
Professor | Angela Athanas |
Term | 99-2 |

Required projects | Yes - Mathematica labs |
Required reading | No |
Required writing | No |
Final exam | Yes - Cumulative |

Were book(s) actually needed | Some |
Book(s) approximate total cost | $100.00 |
Additional comments | This class was more difficult than calc 1 (expected), but she taught well. The mathematica assignments are a pain, and certainly did not help me in learning the material - it seemed like busy work. The final is made by the department, and was somewhat difficult. There was a curve on the grades which helped quite a lot. |
MATH 0280 | Intro to Matrices and Linear Algebra |
Professor | Diwadkar |
Term | 99-2 |
Required homework | Yes - 5 homework assignments per term |
Required projects | No |
Required reading | About 2 chapters per month |
Required writing | No |
Final exam | Yes - Cumulative |
Format of quizzes, exams and final | Problem solving and proofs |
Books required | 1 |
Were book(s) actually needed | Yes |
Book(s) approximate total cost | $70.00 |
Additional comments | There was a ton of info to be memorized in this class. The teacher gave excellent notes though, which helped with studying. It is actually an interesting and informative class especially for CS majors (about 90% of the class were CS majors). There is no curve, but you can drop some low quiz grades and homework assignments. The tests were WAY too long for the 50 minute classes which affected many peoples grades. |
