Customers transitioning from BRSF are asked to note some additions and changes in operation.
1. Sample drop off locations.
a. Samples can be dropped off directly at the GPCL facility, located at 3343 Forbes Avenue, 3rd floor, (or) at S534A Scaife Hall
i. Room S534A Scaife Hall is located on the 5th floor of Scaife, near the student lockers and behind the lecture hall. The combination is 5-3-4. Samples are picked up twice daily at 10 am and 3 pm
b. Courier service from Hillman Cancer Center will continue uninterrupted, with sample delivery being moved to 3343 Forbes. Shadyside customers, including those who currently use the GPCL pick up service, will be able to drop samples off in room 2.15 at the Hillman Cancer Center for pick up by PCI courier and delivery to 3343 Forbes Avenue.
c. The drop off location behind BST rm 1107 will no longer be in service.
2. Sample drop off forms When dropping off samples please complete the GPCL Sequencing and Genotyping sample submission form available at: http://www.genetics.pitt.edu/forms/ and at the sample drop off locations. Leave a hardcopy of the form in document tray located in each drop off room. Faxed submission of sample information will no longer be available.
3. Turn around time Data will be posted within 2 business days of sample receipt. Sample pick up is 10 am. Samples submitted after 10 am are considered to have been received on the following day.
4. Data retrieval When sequencing analysis is complete, data will be posted to a secure folder on the GPCL website, www.genetics.pitt.edu . Each customer of the BRSF facility has been provided with a username and password to login to MYGPCL. This information has (will) be sent to you individually and under separate cover. To retrieve data, please go to www.genetics.pitt.edu, click on the MYGPCL link in the upper right and login using the username and password provided. The Sequencing Data link under the Get Data header will direct you to a secure folder containing your data. Each data folder is accessible only to users registered as being part of the same laboratory.
5. Sample Formats GPCL continues to accept all sample formats accepted by BRSF. In addition, PCR clean up service prior to sequencing reaction and capillary run service for customers who prefer to perform their own sequencing reactions are available. Please contact Bryan Thompson for more information on this service
6. Data Format The data provided is in electropherogram format only. The text export will no longer be provided. There are a number of software packages available for viewing electropherograms and making base calls from them. These include, ABI Sequence Scanner v1.0, Chromas and VectorNTI . ABI will be presenting a seminar on Sequence Scanner v1.0 on June 14th at 11 am and 1 pm in BST Rm 123 for interested parties. If you need assistance with viewing software, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Feel free to contact any of us at the GPCL for questions about this transition or assistance with any other services we provide.
