Our "Living Laboratory".... The University of Pittsburgh - Bradford offers students of the "environment" with
an ideal "living laboratory." Located adjacent to the Allegheny
National Forest and situated in the Tunungwant and Allegheny
watersheds, Pitt-Bradford sits in the heart of a region that
was once both
the most active oil-producing and timber-producing region in
the world - it is still a region where forestry and the oil industry
is very much a part of the landscape. As such, students and faculty
are offered a unique opportunity to explore and research the
complex relationships - political, economic, cultural, biological, chemical,
geologic, ecological - between humankind and its environment. The
study of these relationships not only provides students with
necessary skills that they may apply in other environmental settings,
but
also helps develop a unique regional "sense of place."
