Guitar/Audio

----------

I have been pretending that I can play guitar since 9th or 10th grade. I am self-taught for the most part, but lately I have been trying to learn more theory. My music is influenced by a myriad of different styles. Here is a list of influential groups/artists: PRIMUS, Faith no More, PanterA, Mr. Bungle, Phish, Beastie Boys, Bloodlet, Jimi Hendrix, Jesus Lizard, Vernon Reid, Medeski Martin & Wood, Rage Against the Machine, The Beatles, Bob Marley, SoundGarden, Frank Black / Pixies, Pink Floyd, TOOL, Alice in Chains, Frank Zappa, Butthole Surfers, Bad Brains, Beck, Boogie Down Productions, Chuck D, Cypress Hill, Miles Davis, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Deftones, DJ Shadow, Bob Dylan, Danny Elfman, GangStarr, David Gilmour, Korn, Krs-ONE, Masta Ace, Pre-"Load" Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, The Pharcyde, Public Enemy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Secret Chiefs 3, Slayer, Sun Ra, A Tribe Called Quest, UNKLE, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Roger Waters, and Melvins. Links thanks to Rolling Stone artists A to Z.

My main guitar is a 1986 Fender Standard Stratocaster (japanese model). I also have an acoustic for when I feel like being rustic. I run my guitar into an original ProCo RAT distortion pedal, which runs into a DOD G7 Guitar FX Processor/Preamp, which runs into a DigiTech Time Machine 7.6 second digital delay/sampler (Official noisemaker of Gibby Haynes), which runs to my Peavey Bandit 112 for amplification.

I will soon be adding a DigiTech RP-12 to my effects bank. I will probably be uploading some samples after I have had enough time to familiarize myself with it.

I occasionally get to jam with 3-4 of my friends when I don't have anything important to do. We play a lot of bluesy, jazzy, funked out jammy-jams. We are hoping to write some stuff soon to see what we can do with it. I also have intentions to do a heavier project with my friend feli, who like me, appreciates the occasional cut-time hardcore tune featuring surreal background noise and lots of time changes, and don't forget the DJ scratches! Again, look for samples to be here someday.

As the title suggests, I am interested in audio, which includes just about every aspect you could think of (recording, reproduction, signal processing, etc...) Sometime soon I will have a block diagram schematic of my stereo here.

Audio Samples

March 26, 1999 - These samples are of myself and Kip jamming. He is playing the keyboard, and I am playing drums... and screwing up occasionally... There are still some really tight parts in there where you can tell we were locked onto something cool, though. Remember, this is LIVE, UNREHEARSED, *and* we did it with our eyes closed :P

The samples are in "mp3" format... You will need an mp3 player like Winamp to play them.

4298 Kb Sample 1 - Shane thinks this sounds like Skinny Puppy
2942 Kb Sample 2 - This was where we started recording... pretty cool jam...
187 Kb Sample 3 - A cymbal pattern I want to work on.
2401 Kb Sample 4 - This sounds Floydian to me.
505 Kb Sample 5 - The "other" version of "Let it Be"...
2817 Kb Sample 6 - A cool slow jam
1500 Kb Sample 7 - An example of me screwing everything up on the drums by changing the beat every 5 seconds...

The following samples were recorded one night in my living room. Kip is on keys, I played mostly guitar and drum machine, Shane is on bass, drum machine, and he even grabbed my guitar at some point...

3058 Kb Sample 1 - Kind of "rough"
2748 Kb Sample 2 - This is a cool song, but it needs some work. I was on guitar, Shane was playing bass, and of course, Kip was tickling the plastic (no elephants were harmed in the recording of this song)
0 Kb Sample 2 - I am currently mixing a sample for here

Here is a sample of me doing some DJ scratchin' from about 9th grade: DJ SKILL

Expect more soon... I have 5 tapes full of stuff...
